Sudden Cardiac Arrest, or SCA, can be the result of a variety of symptoms or be a sudden occurrence and is a common cause of death. Not only does cardiac arrest stop the heart from beating but the end effect of that is that the blood stops flowing to major organs throughout the body like the brain. The only methods of treating cardiac arrest effectively are the use of a defibrillator or the immediate use of CPR to get the heart started again. Check out these signs that can sometimes signal cardiac arrest on the horizon.

It's important to realize that cardiac arrest can happen to people with or without signs or symptoms, but certain factors make them more likely candidates. People who have diabetes or are obese pose a greater risk for developing heart problems that include cardiac arrest. Using recreational drugs also increases the risks due to causing irregularities in the heart. Recreational drug overdoses are the primary culprit in the cardiac arrest that is listed as the reason for many celebrity deaths.

A person with unhealthy habits such as smoking, excessive drinking or being overweight may not show overt signs of cardiac arrest or other heart problems, but they are increasing their risk for these problems. While these are precursors or warnings you can also be completely healthy and die from cardiac arrest without warnings. Since this is the case it's important that you eat a healthy diet, watch your weight, quit smoking and avoid alcohol. Cardiac arrest is usually fatal, so it's better not to wait for any warning signs, as they may come too late.

Cardiac arrest, along with other heart conditions, can also be the result of certain birth defects. An enlarged heart, for example, can increase someone's chances of having such problems. The risks can be lowered by taking proper medications and carefully monitoring the heart. In the end, some patients are encouraged to use an internal defibrillator for protection. The odds of cardiac arrest are greater among those who have certain birth defects but it can happen to anyone. Cardiac arrest is an extremely dangerous medical event so any warning signs should be taken seriously and you should seek immediate emergency help. While predicting when cardiac arrest may occur isn't possible, living as healthy as possible is the best way to prevent it. So remember to watch for the warning signs just discussed.
